The applicant is required to attend an orientation session that provides information on the program, the selection process, and testimonials from previous students. After the one hour orientation session the applicants will be eligible for the testing process. Acceptance into the REMSA Paramedic Program is a competitive process.  The applicant must successfully pass the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) and EMT-Basic test.  A study guide for the HOBET is available from Educational Resources, Inc., 1-800-292-2273. The entire orientation and testing should take up to four hours.

Oral Interview Process

Applicants successfully completing those tests will then be scheuled for the Oral Interview process.

Applicants will respond to standardized questions from the oral interview committee. The applicant’s responses will be evaluated based on verbal communication skills, life experience, emergency service experience, and maturity. The applicant’s Personal Statement will be reviewed by the committee for content and written communications ability, and will be considered when scoring the applicant’s Oral Interview.

The results of the written examination, oral interview, and Emergency Services experience will be weighted and scored as follows:

  • Written Exam results weighs as 33.33% of the total score
  • Oral Interview results weighs as 33.33% of the total score
  • Relative Emergency Services Experience weighs as 33.33% of total score.

Applicants will then be ranked based on their weighted scores, with the oral interview committee deciding how many total students will be offered acceptance into the program.
