September CE Course: SIDS Awareness

Responding to any call with a child can be incredibly difficult, but calls involving infant deaths are especially challenging for all responding agencies. The final outcome of the call depends on critical factors including scene management and preservation, documentation, and of course treatment, from a full-range of providers including EMS, law enforcement, coroner’s investigators, Children’s Protective Services and more. We have had an increasing number of pediatric calls in recent years. When is a case truly SIDS – Sudden Infant Death Syndrome? When is it not?

Safe Kids Washoe County, with lead agency REMSA, will be teaming with the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office to discuss current practices, review case studies and describe new programs including Cribs for Kids and doll-reenactment that illustrate the latest practices in child death investigations. These cases present uncommon challenges that providers are facing more frequently and will provide up-to-date practices that will assist in rendering appropriate care.
