2012 Paramedic Program

Dates for the 2012 REMSA Paramedic program have been selected. The January Cohort is scheduled to begin on January 24, 2012 at 9:00 am.

Important Dates:

Entrance testing will be held on October 24, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm and on October 28th and November 5th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Please logon to remsaeducation.com to register for a testing date.

Program applications will be due by 5:00 pm on November 11, 2011.

Interviews for candidates successfully completing the testing and application review will be held on November 21 and 22, 2011 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

ACLS Instructor Course

REMSA Education will be offering an American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor course on February 25, 2010. This course is for currently certified ACLS providers and will provide the necessary information to teach a successful ACLS program.

Participants must complete a Core Instructor Course program online prior to attending this one day ACLS instructor orientation and will be provided an ACLS Instructor manual.

Dr. Heide to Discuss Stroke Research and Treatment

REMSA Education welcomes Dr. Heide from Northern Nevada Medical Center on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 9:00 am to discuss the latest in stroke research and treatments available. Dr. Heide will provide in in-depth overview of the latest technology used to assess and treat patients that present to the emergency department with stroke systems.

Participants will be introduced to the benefits of stroke systems of care and be able to participate in discussions regarding current trends and treatments.

First Aid for Outdoor Related Emergencies

Emergencies can happen anywhere at anytime. The last place you want to be unprepared is when you are far away from help. REMSA’s Outdoor First Aid class will cover all aspects of first aid as well as provide detailed information about outdoor related injuries and illnesses. Some of the topics presented in the course include environmental emergencies, splinting, bandaging, scene safety, head, chest and spine injuries, as well as proper techniques for lifting and moving patients. Participants will have the opportunity to utilize the knowledge learned in the classroom during an afternoon of practice in a local park utilizing the various terrain to put their new skills to the test.

Assessment & Management of Athletic Injuries

Reno-Tahoe is “America’s Adventure Place” and for that reason both residents and visitors experience sports injuries all year round. Dr. James Pappas, M.D. will discuss the assessment and management of commonly encountered athletic injuries along with proper safety equipment removal or management and pain management for athletic injuries in the prehospital setting. Dr. Pappas is an Orthopedic Surgeon and certified in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Medical Specialties. Dr. Pappas served as a team physician to the University of Nevada for the past 12 years with 8 of those years as the head Team Physician.
